My Self Guided Professors

Who I'm choosing to learn from in this journey

Week two of month one of my startup challenge. To be honest, with last week being Passion Week at Church, I didn’t make much progress.

A cool side project I built was using ChatGPT to help me code a Google Sheet that automatically generates a sheet that I need to print weekly for church. It’ll likely save me at least an hour a month going forward…

But remember, the point of this challenge is FOCUS.

I thought this week I could tell you a bit about who I’m learning from on this entrepreneurial journey.

Right now I’m trying to find product-market fit and determine my offer for the Malaylee Christian Wedding market. I want to learn about strategy and mindset, but most importantly I want tactics and frameworks. Here are the “professors” I’m learning from in my self-taught MBA.

1) Professor Alex Hormozi

I feel like I’m going to get some eye-rolls for this one because the volume of content that Alex produces puts him in “guru” territory. But the tactical examples he gives from the businesses he has built (and his .99 eBook) are amazing.

2) Professor Scott DeLong

Most people who have heard of Scott probably found him - as I did - through his $20K into $500K project where he invests $20,000 to build a business that sells for $500K within a year.

Scott shares monthly email updates that show how he is using AI and ads to build a Facebook page following and drive those people to a daily email newsletter.

I’ve learned a lot about how quickly you can grow to tens of thousands of emails and hundreds of thousands of social followers.

3) Professor Daniel Priestly

I found Dan Priestly through Ali Abdaal’s podcast. I was shocked at how many real-life examples and tactical tips that Daniel shared. His content and books are particularly helpful when trying to find initial product-market fit. He says “Everything in business is downstream from lead generation.”.

My deliverables for this month are inspired by his suggestion of building scorecards or events to see if you can get the attention of your audience.

Highlights from last week:

  • Spoke with my social contractor about how we can streamline the social media creation and start moving towards daily posts.

  • Came up with the form fields we can send to couples to feature their weddings (and find vendors).

By the end of this week I will:

  • Create a vendor criteria table in Notion for each wedding vendor.

  • Create the form to send to couples.

  • Reach out to 20 couples to feature them on the website.

Cheers,
Aswin from Learn Through Action
